ISCB43: Call for abstracts for the Early Career Biostatisticians’ Day

Dear ISCB members,

On Thursday 25 August 2022, the last day of the 43rd annual conference of the ISCB, the Early Career Biostatisticians’ (ECB) Day will take place. The focus of the ECB day is to discuss challenges faced when working as statisticians and conducting biostatistical research. We welcome all ISCB conference participants, regardless of their career stage, to attend.

All students and early career biostatisticians (i.e., within 10 years of completing biostatistics training) are invited to submit an abstract for an oral presentation at the ISCB Early Career Biostatisticians’ Day. These presentations should cover aspects related to student, academic, research and professional life that are outside the scope of the main conference. In previous years the topics covered have included working in public health vs industry or academia, working in statistics consultancy, effectively planning, and organising a project, navigating professional relationships, work-life balance, and ethical challenges.

The deadline for abstract submission is 21st March 2022.
The abstract submission should be submitted at the following link: https://forms.gle/sYrC8EprysMWBLB86

The abstract submission form requires you to submit your contact information, title of the abstract, and abstract text (max 350 words). Please email Charlotte Bolch at cbolch@midwestern.edu with any questions about the abstract submission process.

Invited speakers
The following biostatisticians will share their experiences and lessons that they learned while working as biostatisticians.

Noah Haber: “Causation and collaboration: making of a 48-person, 1000+ article, systematic interdisciplinary evaluation exploring the state of causal language in health research”
John Matthews: “Biostatistics: always changing, always staying the same”

Social event
Please join us for a Student Social Event at a local place on Sunday, 21 August 2022 in the evening! This will be a great opportunity to network and connect with other students and early career biostatisticians. More details about time and location will be provided soon.

Registration
The registration fee for the main conference covers the ECB day. It is possible to register for the ECB day only and the cost is £35. Tickets can be booked via this link.
